At first glance, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra looks familiar. Samsung keeps the book-style folding design, but the company has made meaningful improvements to the hardware.
The phone measures just 4.1mm when unfolded and weighs 215 grams. That is impressive for a device that houses two displays, a large battery and flagship-grade hardware. When folded, it measures 8.9mm thick.
The redesigned hinge also makes a noticeable difference. It allows the phone to open flatter, while the crease on the inner display is less distracting than before. The hinge feels smooth and sturdy, giving the Fold 8 Ultra a more polished feel in everyday use.
Samsung also gives the phone a premium finish and improved structural durability. However, the camera bump can still make the phone wobble slightly when you place it on a flat surface.
Display: The Fold Experience Gets Better
The biggest reason to buy a foldable remains the large inner screen, and Samsung has made it even more impressive.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra features an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display and a 6.5-inch cover display. Both screens offer a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, while improved brightness and anti-reflective treatment make them easier to view outdoors.
The 8-inch panel works particularly well for multitasking. You can run multiple apps side by side, browse the web while taking notes or watch content while chatting with friends.
The reduced crease also helps. You can still see it at certain angles, but Samsung has made it far less noticeable during normal use.

Camera: Excellent, But Not Perfect

Battery Life and Charging
Samsung finally addresses one of the long-standing complaints about its foldables by increasing the battery capacity to 5,000mAh.
The phone also adopts silicon-carbon battery technology and supports 45W wired charging, along with wireless charging. Samsung rates the device for up to 27 hours of video playback.
In real-world use, the larger battery gives the Fold 8 Ultra better endurance than previous generations. Heavy users can still drain it faster when they spend hours gaming or using the large inner screen, but overall battery life is now much easier to live with.
Software and Galaxy AI
The Fold 8 Ultra runs Android 17 with One UI 9, bringing Samsung's latest software experience to the foldable platform.
Samsung's AI features become more useful on the larger display. Tools such as Now Nudge can suggest actions based on what you are doing, while Galaxy AI and Google's Gemini add additional assistance for everyday tasks.
The combination of AI and multitasking is arguably where the Fold 8 Ultra separates itself from traditional smartphones. Instead of simply making the screen larger, Samsung uses the extra space to help users get more done.

The bigger issue remains the price. At more than $2,000, the Fold 8 Ultra sits firmly in luxury-phone territory.
Still, for users who want one device that can function as a premium smartphone and a compact tablet, the Z Fold 8 Ultra is hard to beat. It delivers excellent performance, outstanding displays, powerful multitasking and a much more refined folding experience.
